Square skyrmion crystal in centrosymmetric itinerant magnets

We theoretically investigate the origin of square-type skyrmion crystal in centrosymmetric itinerant magnets, motivated from recent experimental finding GdRu$_2$Si$_2$ [N. D. Khanh $\mathit{et}$ $\mathit{al.}$, Nat. Nanotech. $\mathbf{15}$, 444 (2020)]. By simulated annealing for an effective spin model derived Kondo lattice on a square lattice, we find that composed superposition two helices is stabilized magnetic field by synergy between positive biquadratic, bond-dependent anisotropic, and easy-axis anisotropic interactions. This stark contrast to triangular crystals which are only one three, suggesting characteristic magnets with anisotropy. also show variety noncollinear noncoplanar textures appear depending parameters as well applied field. The present systematic study will be useful not identifying key ingredients but exploring further skyrmion-hosting materials magnets.
